Greetings Maverick Fans, I hope you enjoy reading the new official on-line newsletter of UNO Athletics – MavFanatic! We are excited about this new forum in which we can reach out on a monthly basis to all of our valued alum, fans, and stakeholders of UNO. We plan to bring you updates involving department happenings, student-athlete profiles, in-season team updates, and Mav moments from the past. We are able to provide this to you thanks to our presenting sponsor LinkedIn, as well as our corporate sponsors Deeb Realty and First National Bank of Omaha. At the same time, I would be remiss if I did not thank a member of our department, Associate Sports Information Director, Steve Field, for all his assistance and work on this new endeavor. As we move forward with MavFanatic, we hope to improve and enhance it with each issue. If you have a suggestion that you would like to pass along to us, please do so via e-mail to: mavfanatic@unomaha.edu. On February 1st of this year, UNO Athletics and ISP Sports reached an agreement for ISP to assist us with revenue consulting services involving corporate sponsorships, marketing of the program, development of ticket plans, and analysis of other multi-media opportunities. We are pleased to have this opportunity to work with ISP Sports, as UNO is the first DII program they have teamed up with. ISP Sports currently works with 40 DI intercollegiate programs across the country, along with 5 major conferences, and 2 bowl games. Our winter sports teams have wrapped up their seasons with four programs advancing to NCAA post-season competition. Men’s basketball finished the season as the NCC Tournament Champions with a record of 25-7 after falling to Winona State in the second round of the tournament. Wrestling finished third in the National Championship for the second straight year. Women’s swimming won the 400 yard freestyle and broke three school records on their way to a fifth place finish. Women’s track finished 30th in the Championship, with Pinar Saka leading the way and earning All-American status in three events. Congratulations to all our student-athletes who represented themselves and the University in such an outstanding manner. Mark your calendars for these upcoming UNO Athletic events:
I hope you enjoy the first issue of MavFanatic. Knowing we do not have everyone’s email address, please feel free to forward this to your other Mav fanatics, family, friends, and colleagues by clicking here. Thanks again for supporting Omaha’s team… your UNO Mavericks! |
